January Coin of the Month: 2011 Australian Rabbit
The Coin of the Month for January is the 2011 Australian Rabbit otherwise known as The ‘Year of the Rabbit’. It is the fourth coin released in the highly anticipated second series of Australian Silver Lunar Coins.
As ancient legend has it, on a Chinese New Year, the Buddha summoned all the animals of his kingdom, but only 12 showed up. To honor those 12 animals, each was given a place in the zodiac and a year of its own, in the order that they arrived. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2011 is “The Year of the Rabbit.” People born in the Year of the Rabbit are believed to be articulate, talented, and compassionate, making them well-liked and respected by others. They are also said to have the uncanny ability to make the right choices.
The 2011 Australian Rabbit has an intricate artistic detail of the two rabbits displayed on the reverse of this coin is truly remarkable. Each wisp of fur is clearly visible in the image of these delicate creatures which reflects the gentle nature inherent to those born in the Year of the Rabbit. The design also incorporates the Chinese symbol for ‘Rabbit’ and has the words ‘Year of the Rabbit’ inscribed below the image. The letter ‘P’ shows this coin was produced at the highly lauded Perth Mint.
What is the difference between the Australian Rabbit Numismatic versus a Bullion Coin?
The biggest difference between a numismatic coin versus a bullion is relatively simple. A numismatic coin is certified and graded by any grading agency as with the ANACS MS70 Australian Rabbit, however, I only receive MS70 coins from one of the top 3 agencies, ANACS, NGC, or PCGS through Numis Network. A bullion coin is a government mint coin that has not been certified and graded by a grading agency. For more information on what makes the Australian Rabbit an MS70 coin, you may review my article ‘Collectible Coins: What Makes An MS70 Coin?’
How do I know the Australian Rabbit is a credible MS70 coin?
All of the coins you receive on the Coin of the Month are certified and graded MS70 condition just like you see in the picture above with the Australian Rabbit. The owners of Numis Network have a partnership with the ‘World’s Greatest Salesman’ in Mike Mezcak, an industry icon who has sold numismatic MS70 coins for 20 years. Therefore, the leadership of Numis Network is the foundation of knowing you will receive a credible MS70 coin. Review the leadership of Numis Network.
